Family Activities this summer and our Social Sector

The Summer of 2016 is upon us and, like many parents, I will be thankful for the wide range activities and services there to support families across Knowsley.

I have provided a number of links below to the partners offering activities for families in Knowsley this Summer. I hope you agree with me there is something for every family and children of all ages.

Our fantastic ‘ Knowsley Places to go, Things to See’ (PLINGS) has the widest range of links to activities for children and young people. You can access the site at the link below:

Our Children’s Centres are offering family activities for Summer alongside many of its regular services. In addition, the service is also leading on a new project called ‘Healthy Fun, Healthy Tum’ throughout July and August. This will see a healthy food offer incorporated into activities delivered by Children’s Centres and a wide range of partners in the voluntary, community and faith sectors.

The links to each of the Children’s Centre locality Summer programmes are detailed below:

Knowsley Social Sector Leaders and Knowsley MBC

On Tuesday July 25th I attended an inspiring event in Huyton. It brought together Elected Members, Council Officers and a wide range of partners from across the voluntary, community and faith sectors in Knowsley.

The event was hosted by Knowsley Council Leader, Cllr. Andy Moorhead and our aim is to bring together the work of the Public Sector in Knowsley (Council, Health, CCG) and that of the ‘third sector’ to improve the lives and outcomes of residents in Knowsley. I heard from many of the leaders on the day through their presentations or more informally. Whilst I am familiar with any organisations, I heard about some work for the first time and the difference this is making every day in our communities. My Cabinet colleagues, Andy and I listened too. We will take on the issues the sector leaders raised as ‘barriers’. There was a recurring message about bureaucracy in Commissioning for example, this is something we will try to make it easier in the future. A thank-you to everybody who attended and I hope this is the start of something significant in our borough.

Proud Parent

I sign off this blog as a proud parent. Many of you will have seen a tweet I posted earlier this week with the certificates of achievement for my children Jordan and Amelia. They received them from Yew Tree Primary School in Halewood for 100% attendance in the last academic year. Thank-you to Yew Tree School for their support over the past year but well-done kids! Your dad is chuffed to bits.

Enjoy the Summer with your families. Look forward to blogging with you again soon.
