Some of the most valuable conversations I have had recently did not happen in meetings or formal settings. They happened sitting down with residents who regularly meet at Swanside Community Centre.
These informal chats give people the space to speak openly about their experiences, their worries and what they feel works well locally. That insight is invaluable.
Community centres like this are more than buildings. They reduce isolation, bring people together and create a sense of belonging. Something we should always protect.
For me, engagement is not about talking at people. It is about listening, learning and staying connected to the places that hold communities together.
