I wanted to take a moment to share some important news about the upcoming local elections and what it means for residents here in Roby.
On Thursday 7th May, there will be two council seats up for election in our ward. That means every resident will have two votes.
This situation has come about because the Green Party councillor for Roby has resigned from his position. Residents deserved stability and representation, and unfortunately that has not been the case. It has led to this additional seat being contested at the same time, giving the community an important choice about who represents them moving forward.
I am really pleased to be standing alongside Kevin, who is the current sitting councillor for Roby.
Kevin brings a huge amount of experience, knowledge and commitment to the role. He has a strong track record of supporting residents, working with local groups and making sure Roby’s voice is heard.
Alongside this, I bring my own experience, including my role as Chair of a national charity dedicated to the care of older people. A big part of my work locally has been supporting children and families facing poverty and the pressures of the cost of living. Through practical support, access to food, activities and wider help, I have worked to make sure people are supported when they need it most.
It is also important to recognise the work already being done by Megan Dever, who continues to serve as a Labour councillor here in Roby. Megan works hard for residents and is a key part of the team already delivering for our community.
For me, this is about having the right team in place. Kevin and I standing together alongside Megan would give Roby a strong team of three Labour councillors, all working every day for our community. Three councillors who are visible, approachable and focused on getting things done.
Having two votes is a real opportunity for residents. It means you can choose a team that will work together, support each other and deliver for Roby day in and day out.
Everything we do is built around listening to residents, responding to concerns and taking action. That does not change. If anything, having a strong team working side by side strengthens that approach even further.
Roby deserves representatives who are present, committed and prepared to put the work in. That is exactly what we are offering.
I look forward to continuing conversations on the doorstep and hearing what matters most to you in the weeks ahead.
